Nasa images from perseverance10/23/2023 ![]() No need to hike up there to see-let the river do the work. Prospectors looking for gold or diamonds in the old days often looked in rivers to determine whether there was any deposit of interest upstream. This first image of NASA’s Perseverance Rover on the surface of Mars from the High Resolution Imaging Experiment (HiRISE) camera aboard NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) shows the many parts of the Mars 2020 mission landing system that got the rover safely on the ground. "Whether the boulders appear intriguing enough for closer examination and possible sampling remains to be seen-literally," said Farley. So the team will be keeping their options open, ready to stop for anything that piques their curiosity. Boulders are also desirable because their large surface area allows scientists to visually investigate many potentially distinct rocks in a single image. NASA/Twitter One image was taken as Perseverance was approximately seven feet (2 meters) above the surface of Mars. NASA released new photos from its Perseverance rover’s landing on Mars. Credit: NASA/JPL-CaltechĪs with the rock fragments in the Otis Peak sample, scientists believe the boulders likely formed elsewhere and were transported to their present location billions of years ago by an ancient river. NASA released new images from Mars on Friday, including one of the Perseverance rover's daring descent onto the surface of the red planet. NASA's Perseverance captured this image June 13 of a sample it cored from a conglomerate rock called "Emerald Lake." This "Otis Peak" core shows distinctly colored areas that are individual minerals transported by a river that once flowed into Jezero Crater. To get there, it will have to cross a field of boulders. With this sample sealed and stored in its belly, the rover is on its way to a low ridge called Snowdrift Peak. Now in its third science campaign, Perseverance is exploring the top of a fan-shaped pile of sedimentary rock that stands 130 feet (40 meters) tall. Scientists will be able to look at each pebble and fragment in this core, dubbed "Otis Peak," to determine details such as its age, what the environmental conditions were like in the river when the conglomerate formed, and whether it contains signs of ancient microbial life. Perseverance is collecting these samples so that they can be brought to Earth by the NASA-ESA (European Space Agency) Mars Sample Return campaign and studied by lab equipment that's too large and complex to bring to Mars. "And while the water that created the Martian riverbed that Perseverance is currently exploring evaporated billions of years ago, the story carried by those waters remains fresh, stored in conglomerate rock." ![]() "Pebbles and boulders found in a river are messengers from afar," said Ken Farley, Perseverance project scientist from Caltech in Pasadena. To celebrate the completion of a successful first year, NASA has released Webb’s image of a small star-forming region in the Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex.

Hulu packages and add ons10/22/2023 ![]() If you subscribe to Spotify Premium, for example, you may be able to get basic, ad-based Hulu for free. If you subscribe to one of those already, you might as well take advantage. There are a couple of services out there that offer a basic Hulu membership free-of-charge. In some cases, your decision might’ve already been made for you. This may not save you money (although Hulu will occasionally offer deals) but it will allow you to access premium network content from Hulu’s simple and near-ubiquitous apps. Again, if you want Hulu Plus Live TV as well as Hulu’s on-demand programming without ads, you’ll pay an extra $6 on top of that $45 for a total of $51.Īs with Hulu Plus Live TV, you can add premium channels to your regular Hulu subscription, including HBO ($15), Showtime ($11), and Cinemax ($10). You can think of Hulu Plus Live TV is an add-on, not a separate product, meaning your Hulu plus Live TV subscription includes all of Hulu’s on-demand programming along with live TV programming for an extra $39. ![]() You can also expect to pay regular subscription fees for premium networks like HBO ($15), Showtime ($11), and Cinemax ($10), but this will grant you easy access to any of the content available on those premium networks on demand, all in one place. If you want to watch Hulu Plus Live TV on more than two screens at a time, you’ll need to fork over another $15. That privilege (which also includes extra DVR storage space) will set you back an extra $15 a month. ![]() Hulu Plus Live TV comes with a cloud-based DVR, but you can’t fast-forward through commercials by default. It costs $45 per month and adds a live TV streaming service that offers all four major networks (and the CW), plenty of sports and news outlets, popular cable channels like USA and TNT, and much more. If you want to watch television while it airs, Hulu Plus Live TV (formerly Hulu with Live TV) is what you’re looking for. Once the show begins, you won’t be uninterrupted until it’s over. Instead of showing ads during the episode, Hulu will play brief 15-second commercials before and after the episode starts. In addition, there are some on-demand shows that Hulu’s ad-free programming doesn’t cover, although Hulu tries to make those cases as painless as possible. Hulu’s live TV streaming service will still have regular commercial breaks. Note that this option only removes ads from Hulu’s on-demand service. You can remove ads from Hulu’s on-demand programming for double the cost, meaning you’ll pay $12 a month for regular Hulu without ads, or $51 a month for ad-free Hulu, alongside Hulu’s live TV service, Hulu Plus Live TV (which we’ll get to below). If you’re not a big fan of ads, there’s a way to remove almost all of them and stream like a dream through all of Hulu’s content - but it’ll cost you. Still, if you don’t mind waiting a day or two to watch your shows, and ads aren’t a big deal to you, standard Hulu is all the Hulu you need. Even with the $6 monthly fee, television shows on Hulu play commercials during their normal ad break, and depending on how you watch it, it can put a damper on the experience. Lots and lots of ads - or rather, a ton of instances of the same few ads being shown over and over again, especially if you’re pushing your way through a full season of a show. Hulu only offers the most recent episodes of some shows, with older installments disappearing as new ones arrive.įinally, Basic Hulu comes with ads. Like cable networks’ on-demand programs, Hulu’s TV offerings don’t always stick around. It’s a lot like the on-demand programming that comes with a regular cable subscription, so if you miss an episode of your favorite series, you can log into Hulu and catch it the next day.īe careful, though. While Netflix gets seasons of a show after the full season ends (and even then, often after a lengthy delay), TV episodes often show up on Hulu within 24 hours of airing. ![]() In many ways, it’s a lot like Netflix, but there are a few major differences.įirst of all, while Hulu’s original series are getting better and better (and, now that Disney controls Hulu, expect to see many more of them soon), it’s the traditional TV programming that makes Hulu special. For $6 a month, you get access to a rotating selection of on-demand movies, Hulu original series like The Handmaid’s Tale, PEN15, and Shrill, and a bunch of popular network and cable television shows. When most people talk about Hulu, they’re referring to the basic, ad-based Hulu service.

Export image from sketchup web app10/22/2023 ![]() Only as a a last resort, would I recommend trying to implement an importer for an XML-based format. If that's not available, and you must write your own importer, then try to find a simple ASCII ( not XML-based) or binary format that fits your needs. When considering import/export, first try to find an open source library that can handle the import for you and make the data available to your program in a reasonable format. Human space shuttle columbia debris10/22/2023 ![]() This was the fifth time that foam had been observed breaking off of a bipod ramp, and the problem had become so common that it even had a name: foam shedding. Furthermore, NASA engineers believed that if extensive damage did occur, the crew members wouldn’t be able to remedy the situation while the shuttle was in orbit. ![]() However, ground workers weren’t able to determine exactly where the damage occurred or how severe it was. However, about 80 seconds into the shuttle’s launch from the Kennedy Space Center, a large piece of foam insulation split off from the “bipod ramp” - a piece used to attach the external tank to the shuttle.Įngineers used camera footage to review the incident, and found that the suitcase-sized piece of foam struck the shuttle’s left wing as it fell. On January 16, 2003, Columbia embarked on its 28th space shuttle mission, designated STS-107, to carry out a series of microgravity science experiments. The unfortunate event shook the science community and the public, but the lessons taken away from the incident overhauled NASA’s approach to safety concerns and future space travel. This year, 2023, marks the 20th anniversary of Columbia’s last space shuttle mission, which suffered a catastrophic and fatal end on Feb. 26, to honor the crew members who lost their lives during the Apollo 1 fire and the Challenger and Columbia space shuttle disasters, as well as other NASA employees who have perished while advancing space exploration. NASA is holding its annual Day of Remembrance today, Thursday, Jan.

Bad case of10/22/2023 ![]() ![]() Thus the question must be asked, is she still Camilla Cream? She is always called “Camilla,” but it seems that by the time she has morphed into the walls of her room, there is really no recognizable Camilla left. In this way, the function of identity is raised: is it something one defines for oneself or is it something that is defined by others? Throughout the book, Camilla visibly and physically changes many times. At some point, Camilla becomes almost unrecognizable, and though she does not appear to lose her sense of self, our perception of her changes. The story raises the question of whether or not it is important to care about what people think, as well as what the consequences of such worrying are. Whatever they say about her becomes reflected in her, and, subsequently, Camilla realizes she has to be true to herself and her own desires. The careful reader or listener will realize that Camilla’s body is trying to please everybody she meets, thus making her a victim to the power of suggestion. This continues until one woman, in a misguided attempt to cure her, tells Camilla to “become one with room.” At this point, Camilla appears to merge with the walls and bed of her room. When Camilla goes to school the day after the stripes appear, she and her classmates realize that whatever they say to her becomes a pattern on her skin. In fact, her insecurity manifests itself by turning her skin stripy. Philosophically speaking, the book deals with the issue of identity, spun in several different ways.Ĭamilla is introduced as a girl who worries a lot about what people think of her and whether they like her, and as a result, her sense of self is highly malleable. The core theme of A Bad Case of Stripes is learning to be yourself and being comfortable in your own skin… literally. CeCe Guidelines for Philosophical Discussion When the doctor, specialists, experts, and many others cannot figure out what’s causing the stripes, a little old woman appears with what just might be the cure. On the first day of school, Camilla wakes up to find herself completely covered in rainbow stripes! If the stripes were not bad enough, Camilla’s skin develops everything people suggest she has – someone says “checkerboards,” another says “bacteria,” and she breaks out in checkerboard pattern and bacteria tails. Lara styled and co-directed the video which remarkably had to be delayed when a whale beached itself on Caves Beach, with Lara and the crew helping it get back to open waters.Questions for Philosophical Discussion » Summary This is a story of an insecure girl who learns to be happy with her identity.Ī Bad Case of Stripes is the story of Camilla Cream, a girl who loves lima beans and worries about others’ opinions of her. “I was playing with vocal ideas and I come up with a cool rhythm vocally in the chorus, everyone reacted and said "that's it", it became a key hook - it was funny as I kinda wrote it without thinking!” Lara says of how the song came together.Īlso released today is the beautiful music video for ‘Bad Case Of Loving You’, which was filmed at Caves Beach and an arcade in NSW. The song was co-written by Lara with acclaimed production team DNA Songs, who also produced the track. It’s not a heartbreak song, it’s more about warranted disappointment in someone for turning out exactly like you thought they would.” “Sometimes we fall for someone that we shouldn’t because they don’t treat you right or they fall through on their promises. “‘Bad Case Of Loving You’ is about falling into the trap of toxic love and the mixed emotions that come with discovering if someone is genuine, or if it’s all part of a game,” Lara says. It is an incredibly assured song from a relatively new act and can stand side-by-side with music released by the very best international superstars. Leaning more into pop than her previous releases, the song is powerful and impactful, expertly constructed with beautiful melodies, a driving beat and a remarkable vocal performance from Lara.
